The Burstner Habiton HM 6.0 has added another major accolade to its name, winning ‘Best Campervan Innovation’ at the 2026 Out & About Live Awards. It’s a significant achievement for a compact Mercedes-based campervan that has already turned heads across Europe for its intelligent design and everyday practicality.
Why the Habiton HM 6.0 Impressed the Judges
According to the Out & About Live team, the Habiton HM 6.0 was the “showstopper” at last year’s Caravan Salon Düsseldorf. The judges highlighted its ambitious goal of fitting a traditional European fixed single-bed layout-normally found in longer 6.36m vans-into a much shorter 5.93m Mercedes platform.
They also praised several standout features:
- Six exterior colours
- Front- or all-wheel drive options
- A sliding half-dinette bench and table that allows the patented washroom to move forward
- A foldaway basin and “disappearing” loo with three toilet system choices (cassette, Trelino, or Clesana)
As the judging team put it: “We’ve never seen anything like it!”

Innovation at the Heart of the 2026 Habiton
Burstner officially launched the Habiton HM 6.0 for the 2026 season, positioning it as a compact but premium campervan built on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. Despite its sub-6m length, it manages to offer:
- Two full-length single beds
- An optional pop-up roof
- A patented movable wet room
- A generous half dinette with swivel seats
This level of flexibility sets new expectations for what a compact campervan can deliver.

A Campervan Built for Real-World Use
Throughout the interior, Burstner has focused on clever, practical detailing. The kitchen features a sink, gas hob, and compressor fridge, and remains usable from outside the vehicle-perfect for warm-weather touring or quick roadside breaks.
Inside, the movable wet room allows the living space to adapt throughout the day. During daylight hours it creates more space around the seating area; in the evening it shifts back to allow the longitudinal beds to unfold fully.
The result is an interior that feels surprisingly open for such a compact campervan.
Versatility for Two or Four
The Habiton HM 6.0 is ideal for couples, but with the optional pop-up roof, it becomes a capable campervan for up to four people. Foldable beds, modular interior components, and Burstner’s well-planned space distribution give it an edge over other sub-6m vans in the same class.
Buyers can also choose from multiple decor and fabric packages, allowing personalisation without sacrificing production efficiency or price point.
Engineering Challenges Turned Into Innovation
Felix Sturm, Burstner’s Director of Operations & Production, explains that combining the Mercedes chassis with the patented sliding bathroom solution was one of the most challenging undertakings. The goal: true living comfort for four people in under six metres-a concept the industry had yet to see.
Sturm noted that the team’s biggest achievement was pairing this innovation with a standardised manufacturing process and attractive pricing.
Where the Habiton Fits in the Burstner Line-Up
The Habiton strengthens Burstner’s Mercedes campervan offerings, sitting within the mid-price segment. While the Signature range appeals to comfort-focused buyers in the sub-3.5t category, the Habiton is designed for mobile, active travellers who want flexibility, clever design, and a premium driving experience without moving into a full-size motorhome.
